Features: This series of paintings, themed around the manifestations of Guanyin, extensively employs various incarnations of Guanyin to create different storylines and scenes. Although the paintings have a clear thematic focus, the anonymous artist still pays great attention to the form of the artwork, showcasing unique techniques and styles. In terms of overall composition, the artist emphasizes the realism of the scenes and strives to create a lively atmosphere, aiming to convey the authenticity of the story rather than mere legend. This also enhances the readability of corresponding details in the artwork, enabling viewers, especially illiterate believers, to understand the themes of Guanyin culture within the dramatic scenes.
In terms of figure modeling, while the paintings have not yet completely the conventionalized features of religious art since the Tang Dynasty, the inclusion of numerous everyday figures gives the characters distinct personalities, which are quite prominent overall. These characteristics are expressed through the diverse clothing, gestures, expressions, and unique attributes of the figures, adding charm to the artwork.
The architecture and other details in the background were deliberately depicted to enhance the realism of the scene, such as the decorative elements on the beams and pillars of the buildings, the paved floors, and the furniture and arrangements inside the buildings. As the paintings have not been influenced by Western art, the perspective still retains clear characteristics of traditional Chinese art.
