Features: This book can serve as a reference textbook for postgraduate students in universities and colleges, as well as a reference reading material for technical and managerial personnel in manufacturing enterprises engaged in product design and informatization. It can also be used as a training textbook for manufacturing enterprises to implement collaborative simulation and virtual prototype technology. The book introduces digital product design with a focus on virtual prototypes, emphasizing the application of simulation technology, particularly collaborative simulation, in the product design process. The book is divided into 7 chapters. Chapter 1 is an introduction, which systematically elaborates on product design theory, development processes, development organizations, and development tool platforms, with a focus on modeling and simulation in product design. It also analyzes the background and connotation of virtual prototypes. Chapters 2 and 3, based on the current application status of simulation in product design—single-domain simulation—detailedly introduce three typical commercial simulation software and their application cases. Chapters 4 and 5 further discuss several key issues of multi-domain collaborative simulation based on the needs of complex product design, including distributed collaborative modeling, multi-domain modeling, and collaborative simulation operation. Chapters 6 and 7 systematically introduce virtual prototypes from both technical and implementation perspectives, providing several application cases.
