Features: During the planning process of this series of dialogues, we ("we" has become a word that cannot be used lightly) first felt that some of our so-called "humanities intellectuals" do not deserve the title "humanities" or "humanities intellectuals," because whether facing history or responding to reality, we often feel our own narrowness and powerlessness, and feel the importance of clearing up the background of knowledge and thought. In fact, if we cannot break free from a narrow perspective or clear up the knowledge system and thought background, then the so-called "criticism" and "innovation" would become empty words. Over the years, we have had lessons from sticking to our own territories and stopping at our own boundaries. Therefore, we look forward to a flight of thought. The group of people collected in this series of books are basically of the "humanities intellectuals" type. In their respective dialogues, they have almost all discussed the issue of "intellectuals." The "New Humanities Dialogue Series" edited by Wang Yao and Lin Jianfa expresses the thoughts and reflections of people in this era of "dialogue," commemorating the pain and joy brought by thinking and reflecting. The candidates for the dialogues are all renowned writers and scholars, including Feng Jicai, Zhou Limin, Han Shaogong, Wang Meng, Liu Owen, and Su Tong. The "intellectual status" of the series can largely show the partial outline of the intellectual and cultural circles since the 1990s. These "humanities intellectuals" explain various intellectual and cultural issues, radiating the warmth of their own lives. In a certain sense, this series of dialogue records is also a spiritual self-narrative of the dialoguers.
