Braids, or braids

Author: Wu Guiping

Publish Date: 2004-08-01
Features: The Wen Hui Reading Weekly has reached its 1,000th issue. A thousand issues, nineteen years and fifty-three days—neither too long nor too short. The paper has turned yellow, the print has begun to blur, and the red-tinted titles are fading. Although the "To the Readers" in the Pilot Issue carries the heavy imprint of its era: "She arrives among you on the wind of 'great momentum, great unity, and great prosperity,' contributing a little to enrich your lives," it also proudly declares that it is "a comprehensive reading newspaper edited by a news organization and distributed nationwide." It is published exclusively for book lovers, especially young comrades. The newspaper is published every Saturday, in a four-page, four-column format, with a retail price of four fen per issue and an annual subscription price of two yuan and sixteen fen. The Wen Hui Reading Weekly is the "professional book lover." Being a professional book lover is not easy—it requires determination, the ability to keep one’s focus and uphold one’s integrity. Look at some famous reading publications in China and abroad; they cannot afford to be poor and are now considering "transforming" to find a path to wealth. They have their own reasons, but we hope that when the Wen Hui Reading Weekly reaches its 2,000th, 3,000th, 5,000th issue, or even longer, it will still remain a haven for "book lovers, especially young comrades."
