Features: These three volumes include the "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" for primary, junior high, and senior high schools. They were compiled by senior education experts, who were invited by Shanghai Education Publishing House to address the significant reforms currently underway in the Ministry of Education. Based on relevant "standards" and starting from current realities, they conducted thorough research and wrote these readers for the reference, guidance, and self-study use of teachers and students in primary and secondary schools across various regions. I had the pleasure of reviewing them in advance and found them immensely beneficial. The selected texts can broadly cover the finest classical Chinese pieces found in various textbooks. The annotations are concise, the introductions to the authors' backgrounds are accurate and concise, the explanations of sentences highlight key points, and the reading prompts guide in-depth reflection. The "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" was edited by professors Xu Zhongyu, Qi Shenhua, and Fang Zhifan of East China Normal University as chief editors. The compilation philosophy not only inherits the legacy of past "Classical Chinese Readers" and "Continuation of Classical Chinese Readers" but also integrates new ideas in language teaching, incorporating the essence of the "New Chinese Language Curriculum Standards." The "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" is divided into "Primary School Volume," "Junior High School Volume," and "Senior High School Volume" based on the difficulty level of the selected texts. The "Primary School Volume" includes 160 selected texts, with 80 designated by the "New Curriculum Standards" and the remaining 80 carefully chosen by the editors from renowned classical works, tailored to the learning level of junior high school students in classical Chinese. The manuscript is arranged in chronological (dynastic) order. The "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" not only aligns with the cognitive patterns of primary school students but also effectively enhances their classical Chinese proficiency.
