Features: Qu Qiubai (1899–1935) was an early leader of the Communist Party of China, a talented literary theorist, writer, and translator. He was a pioneer in translating and studying Russian and Soviet literature. In his Last Words, written in the final days of his life, he believed that his strongest expertise still lay in the translation and study of Russian literature. This book includes his History of Russian Literature, written during his travels in Russia from 1921 to 1922. It was originally published in 1927 as the second part of Jiang Guangci's Russian Literature by the Creation Society, and later included as Russian Literature Before the October Revolution in the Collected Works of Qu Qiubai. This book is an extremely valuable resource for studying Russian literature and its influence on the May Fourth generation of Chinese literature. It is divided into 19 chapters, starting from Russian folk and ancient literature, covering literary giants such as Pushkin, Tolstoy, and Dostoevsky, up to the period before the October Revolution, providing a relatively complete outline of Russian literary history. Additionally, the book includes several articles by the author reviewing the works of modern Chinese writers, most of which are literary essays written in the 1930s when he guided the left-wing literary movement, holding significant historical value. To respect the original work, with the exception of some punctuation and obvious printing errors, certain idiomatic expressions and wording in this book are retained as in the original printing.
