Publish Date: 2004-09-01
Features: This book is divided into three parts, with a total of 14 chapters. The current revised edition maintains the structure of three parts unchanged, but adds one new chapter to each of the first two parts. Specifically,
Part I discusses Western sociologists and their theoretical views during the emergence and formation of sociology. This section introduces sociologists from France, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Due to the circumstances at the time, the theories of Italian sociologist Pareto were not included. The revised edition adds a chapter on Pareto's general sociological thought, which is Chapter 7. Currently, there is an increasing amount of material on Pareto, but it feels somewhat disorganized. This book arranges it according to the established format, making his unique thought content more focused and prominent. In Part II, the development of American sociology since the 20th century, the revised edition adds a chapter on the comprehensive development trend of Western sociological theories since the late 1980s, which is Chapter 15; additionally, the appendix of the previous edition—Modern Theories of Sociology—is revised into a chapter and placed in Part II, now Chapter 14. In Part III, the Marxist sociology after World War II, due to fundamental changes in these countries, Chapter 16 is titled "The Development Process and Characteristics of Former Yugoslav Society"; Chapter 17 is also titled "Former Yugoslav Sociology," with the mention of sociology in European countries removed along with related content. To explain the general state of Russian sociology after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, new content is added to the appendix.
