Features: This selection is intended for reference by classical literature researchers, so I would like to briefly discuss my views on the development of ci poetry and some specific aspects of Tang and Song ci, serving as an introduction to this selection. There are two arguments that have been widely circulated in the world of ci poetry, although they reflect some actualities, they also contain erroneous elements: 1. Ci is considered a supplement to poetry, narrower than poetry. 2. The so-called "orthodox" and "transformative"—taking certain works as orthodox and others as transformative. I will simply raise these points here and elaborate on them later. First, it should be said: the possible and development of ci poetry and the actual historical development are two separate matters. General literary history can only draw conclusions based on existing achievements and cannot delve too much into how it might or should develop. However, this is indeed a fundamental issue that we need to discuss today. The following will be explained in three parts.
