In 1792, at the age of 22, Ludwig van Beethoven came to Vienna and never left this city, which held a special attraction for musicians, until his death in 1827. Most of Beethoven's works were composed here. All nine of his symphonies were premiered in Vienna. In 1805, his only opera, "Fidelio," was also premiered at the Vienna State Opera. Beethoven is regarded by later generations as the greatest symphonic composer in history. His "Symphony No. 3, Heroic" is filled with passion. His ninth symphony, inspired by the poem "Ode to Joy" by German poet Schiller, has now become the anthem of the European Union. The glorious creations could not hide the hardships of Beethoven's life. In 1802, due to his gradually deteriorating hearing, Beethoven, in his grief and anger, wrote a will that may have been addressed to his brother. His passionate nature compelled him to move frequently. He left dozens of residences in the northern part of Vienna, where hot springs were located. However, the hot springs ultimately could not save his deafness. By 1819, Beethoven's hearing had completely deteriorated. In 1827, a solemn funeral was held for Beethoven at the W?hringer Friedhof in Vienna. In 1888, Beethoven's remains were laid to rest in the Vienna Central Cemetery.
