Features: The "Contemporary Chinese Classic Animation Series" presents China's outstanding animated films through the combination of books and original VCDs, showcasing the excellence of Chinese culture to a broader audience. It allows adults to relive their childhood memories and enables young readers to experience Chinese culture and be nurtured by its spirit through Chinese stories and characters. It also aims to inspire Chinese animation filmmakers to create more works with a distinct Chinese style and national character, shaping more beloved Chinese cartoon characters, and reviving the glory of Chinese animated films.
The A Fantai puppet films are adapted from Xinjiang folk tales. A Fantai symbolizes wisdom, being just and discerning, with a sense of humor. The rich landlords fear him, while the common people trust and welcome him. The filmmakers employed a rough, cartoon-style approach with bold lines and broad areas to design the characters, backgrounds, and actions, making the film's themes prominent and the characters' personalities vivid, filled with humor and wit. Especially the portrayal of A Fantai is lifelike, deeply loved by audiences.
To shape the A Fantai character, the main creative team of the production team visited Xinjiang twice to immerse themselves in the local culture, gather stories about A Fantai, and seek his original prototype. This finally gave this character, who had only been known through books and word of mouth, a concrete and vivid image: a long goat beard, a hooked nose, small round eyes with small leaf-patterned eyebrows, wrapped in a "sela" headscarf, wearing a small hat, holding a plucked instrument, riding a small donkey, and traveling around, "loving to interfere in the world's injustices and speaking for the poor."
