The idea of writing this New Classroom English originated early from Awen English’s multiple training sessions for secondary school English teachers. During these trainings, which focused on improving local English teachers’ listening, reading, and writing skills, as well as exchanging methods and experiences in teaching new curricula—especially the widely adopted junior high New Target English and the new senior high People’s Education Press textbooks—we found that teachers and students urgently needed a dedicated guidebook for classroom English.
For the training, senior language experts from Awen English, middle school teachers, and several foreign experts collaborated to write classroom English training materials that were highly popular among teachers. Many of these contents have now become an integral part of this book published by World Knowledge Press. Indeed, with the continuous deepening of English teaching reforms in China, English instruction has become a trend in classroom English teaching. Classroom English expressions are gradually becoming standardized and more colloquial, with a focus on communication. Teaching in English plays a crucial role in establishing a good English environment and helping students apply what they learn. Meanwhile, students can naturally and effortlessly develop a scientific approach to learning English by studying standardized and accurate classroom English. Teachers urgently need a book that guides teaching and corrects the common Chinese-style English errors they often make in class.
Given this, after extensive market research and incorporating feedback from teachers and educators, we meticulously compiled this New Classroom English. The book is divided into three parts: “Classroom English,” “Extracurricular Activities,” and “Appendix.”
- Classroom English includes eight sections: “Before Class,” “First Class,” “Course Introduction,” “Teaching Activities,” “Closing Class,” “Classroom Management,” “Teacher Comments,” and “Student Evaluations.” It intersperses sub-modules such as common sentence patterns, one-sentence expressions, situational dialogues, and a “Correction Corner,” vividly recreating typical expressions used in each stage of English teaching. These include monologues from both students and teachers, as well as dialogues between them, fully reflecting the flexibility, liveliness, and interactivity of teaching.
- Extracurricular Activities includes three sections: “Games,” “English Parties,” and “English Speeches.” Teachers can use this book as a foundation to organize English extracurricular activities based on their own ideas, thereby sparking students’ interest in learning English and facilitating smooth English teaching.
- Appendix is divided into four sections: “Jokes,” “Tongue Twisters,” “Educational and Teaching Terms,” and “Grammar Terms.” The “Jokes” and “Tongue Twisters” in the appendix are added to complement the explanations of most teaching activities in the book, serving as a starting point for inspiration. Meanwhile, the list of common educational and teaching terms and grammar terms is provided for the convenience of teachers and students, saving them the trouble of consulting numerous reference books.
