Features: From an international perspective, the 1980s were a relatively calm period for linguistics. The various branches of the discipline focused on deepening and refining their existing fields, without significant theoretical or methodological upheavals or breakthroughs. In China, however, the 1980s presented a different picture. After a decade of freezing, linguistics entered a spring of thawing and revival. The vitality that had been long suppressed suddenly burst forth. The linguistics community was vibrant, full of energy, with numerous academic societies and journals established, and the research team rapidly expanded. Towards the outside world, China's linguistics opened up channels for communication. The dissemination of books and materials, as well as exchanges between experts and scholars, allowed us to quickly grasp the various emerging theories and methods from the West since the 1960s, as well as the main achievements in Chinese language research. Under favorable domestic and international conditions, the 1980s were a period of flourishing for Chinese linguistics, with new developments emerging in multiple aspects. Among these, the study of modern Chinese grammar stands out as the most active and progressive field.
