Casting Handbook, Volume 5: Casting Processes (Volume 5)

Author: China Society for Casting, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: The "Casting Handbook" is published in six volumes, covering cast iron, cast steel, casting of non-ferrous alloys, foundry materials, casting processes, and special casting. This book is the fifth volume, "Casting Processes." The second edition of this book is a comprehensive revision based on the first edition, updating many technical standards and process specifications, improving and supplementing new technical content, and reflecting technological trends. This volume consists of seven chapters:
Chapter 1 introduces the brief history, prospects, and outlook of casting processes;
Chapter 2 covers the filling ability of liquid metal, control of solidification, crystallization, and shrinkage, as well as gases and non-metallic inclusions in castings;
Chapter 3 discusses sand mold modeling, core-making process design, selection of process parameters, design of gating systems, risers, chills, and vent holes, as well as drying and assembly of sand molds (cores), with many application examples provided;
Chapter 4 introduces the design of patterns, templates, core boxes, and sand boxes;
Chapter 5 covers the shakeout and core removal of castings, removal of gates, runners, fins, and burrs, surface finishing, straightening, and rescuing of castings, stress relief, and anti-rust coating;
Chapter 6 discusses the causes of casting defects, prevention methods, and quality inspection of castings;
Chapter 7 introduces the application of computer technology in casting and new technologies such as rapid prototyping, fine-grained casting, and electromagnetic casting.
This handbook is primarily intended for technical personnel engaged in casting production, as well as researchers in material science and university teachers and students in related fields for reference.
