Features: This book starts from the fundamental question of general linguistics—the principles of linguistic and script typology—and proposes a new model for the origin of general scriptology. The book is divided into three parts: First, it begins with the theory of pictographic script and analyzes, layer by layer, the constructions and shortcomings in the research on the origin of scripts by mainstream Western scholars, represented by Gerber. Next, drawing fully on three major Chinese achievements—the data on the birth of Chinese civilization provided by the phased results of the Xia-Shang-Zhou Chronology Project, research on minority languages and scripts, and preliminary explorations in linguistic and script typology theory by the linguistic and theoretical community—the book delves into the intrinsic correlation mechanisms and constraints between basic linguistic types and basic script types, proposing a new model for general scriptology. Finally, to avoid repeating the "mistakes" of Gerber's model, an additional "verification" stage is added to the original "materials—methods—theory" process. Based on the developmental facts of self-originating script systems with three types of materials being relatively complete, the newly proposed model is verified.
