Features: Ruan Dacheng was a figure from the late Ming Dynasty who had an impact on both history and literature. Due to his betrayal at a critical moment in history by surrendering to the enemy, he became a character in The Tale of Treacherous Officials. However, as a scholar, he also made significant contributions. As a result of these circumstances, Ruan's betrayal was widely condemned, and his literary reputation did not shine brightly. The author provides a profound analysis of the thoughts and actions that shaped Ruan Dacheng, while also objectively evaluating his achievements in poetry and drama. This objective and fair assessment makes the book a valuable work in filling a gap in the field. It has also broadened the scope of research in Chinese classical literature.
