Features: The history and culture of a nation should be composed of three books: words, deeds, and art—understanding any one of them is inseparable from the other two, and particularly the book on art can best reflect the national character, making it also reliable and true. Therefore, the initial motivation for writing this book is to reach a general readership. As an art history scholar, I am not willing to adopt such a style for writing because it does not align with my academic philosophy. However, I am willing to explain the Chinese art I understand in a concise way to more laypeople, so that more people can gain genuine respect and warmth for Chinese history and culture through reading and understanding Chinese art. This is a that literate people must cultivate. The goal of this book is not high; it is enough to allow those unfamiliar with this discipline to enjoy the aesthetics of viewing and understanding Chinese calligraphy, painting, and works.
