Features: Zhenjiang is located in the central part of Jiangsu Province, on the southern bank of the lower Yangtze River. It borders Nanjing to the west, Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou to the east, and Yangzhou across the river to the north. The city covers a total area of 3,843 square kilometers with a population of 2.62 million. Among them, the urban area covers 255 square kilometers with a population of 510,000. Zhenjiang is an ancient city in the Jiangnan region with a history of over 2,500 years. During the Spring and Autumn Period, Zhenjiang belonged to the Wu Kingdom. In the late Eastern Han Dynasty, Sun Quan moved the capital from Suzhou to Zhenjiang, naming it the Capital City. Soon after, he moved westward to Nanjing, and Zhenjiang was renamed Jingkou. Zhenjiang is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, governing four counties (cities): Danyang, Dantu, Jurong, and Yangzhong. The urban area is divided into two districts: Jingzhong and Runzhou. All 90 townships are key open industrial satellite towns. Zhenjiang has been a vital transportation hub and a famous commercial port since ancient times. In 1998, it was listed by the State Council as a coastal economic open area.
