Features: Fan painting and calligraphy are a special category within the realm of art, cherished by painters, calligraphers, literati, and even the general public for their portability and convenience. The works on fans range from masterpieces by renowned artists to numerous pieces by lesser-known talents and unsung creators, offering a sweeping view of the development of painting and calligraphy since the Ming and Qing dynasties. These small works are indeed significant. Furthermore, the elegance of fan painting, the refinement of accompanying poetry, and the exquisite craftsmanship of fan handles are collectively known as the "three perfections" of fans, making them endlessly intriguing. In recent years, with the flourishing of cultural enterprises, the popularity of painting and calligraphy has also surged. The publication of countless high-quality catalogs showcasing masterpieces is truly delightful. Although there are numerous comprehensive works on fan art, those that combine rich illustrations with detailed commentary, guiding readers into the depth of appreciation, are scarce. Leveraging decades of expertise in operation and the extensive collection of artworks spanning various dynasties at the Shanghai Antiquities Store, with the support of the Shanghai Museum, this volume compiles the genuine works of over 360 painters and calligraphers from the Ming dynasty to the modern era, along with dozens of fan paintings from the Song and Yuan dynasties. Written by experts from the Shanghai Museum and colleagues at the store, the articles are complemented by vivid illustrations, and the book is now brought to publication.
