1. Once, the Queen gave birth to a daughter, and the King decided to hold a grand baptismal ceremony for her. He searched the entire kingdom to find seven fairies to serve as her godmothers. Each fairy was to bring a gift that would grant the little princess a virtue, making her a perfect princess. At the banquet, a furious old fairy suddenly burst in. A young fairy quickly hid behind the curtains.
2. The presentation of gifts to the little princess began: The first fairy promised she would become the most beautiful girl in the world; the second fairy promised she would be as intelligent as an angel; the third fairy promised she would have skillful hands; the fourth fairy gave her the ability to dance; the fifth fairy gave her a nightingale-like voice; the sixth fairy taught her the art of playing musical instruments. The old fairy, however, cursed her, saying she would die by having her finger pricked by a spindle. The King and Queen were heartbroken. At this moment, the fairy hiding behind the curtains stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty and Your Highness, please rest assured. I am powerless to change the old fairy's prophecy, but the princess will not die. She will sleep for one hundred years, and then a prince will come to awaken her."
