Features: "Fundamentals of Medical Computer Applications" (3rd Edition) was compiled based on the discussion spirit of the 6th Main Conference of the Five-Year Clinical Medical Professional Planning Textbooks in Beijing in December 2002 and the meeting spirit of the Medical Computer Applications Editorial Committee in Guangzhou in April 2003. To further highlight the knowledge content of computer networks and network application skills, this book adopts Windows 2000 as the operating system platform. It also increases the to introduce network knowledge based on Windows 2000 and the application methods of network medical information resources based on the Internet. The cultural foundation editing tools still introduce Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in Office 2000 (because they are so classic and practical), but significantly reduce basic operations and strengthen more practical, more challenging, and computer level examination-oriented content; it particularly enriches the content of document and web communication, making it easier to use documents with browsers. Network application tools mainly use Internet Explorer 6.0 and Outlook Express 6.0, and additional very practical sections such as software downloads online, search engines, and FTP tools are added to enhance students' network concepts and online operation skills. This book uses the development and perfection of Excel 2000 spreadsheet data processing concepts as the foundation for database teaching; as an extension of the tool, Access 2000 is selected to teach databases. Equipping medical students with simple programming skills is the second purpose of this book. Object-oriented programming is the mainstream of today's programming, and we have chosen Visual Basic 6.0 as the language for teaching object-oriented programming, divided into two chapters: "VB Programming Fundamentals" and "VB Programming Improvement." The "Fundamentals" introduces the concepts and methods of procedural programming as well as the concepts and interfaces of object-oriented programming. The "Improvement" enables students to basically develop window-style software programming skills; it also specifically introduces object-oriented programming for databases. To broaden the horizons of medical students, this book retains the chapter "Introduction to Hospital Information Systems." The viewpoints and materials of the new version are selected from the newest domestic monographs and journals in 2003-2004. This book concludes with an introduction to the basic knowledge of HIS and the "Design and Analysis of Outpatient and Emergency Management Systems."
For the teaching arrangement of medical undergraduate courses, this book can be divided into three parts:
- Chapters 1 to 2 (Computer Principles, Windows Operating System) form one part, mainly answering the questions of "what is a computer and how to use a computer." This part is recommended to be arranged for 20 teaching hours (including laboratory classes).
- Chapters 3 to 6 (Chinese Word 2000, Chinese Excel 2000, Chinese PowerPoint 2000, and Internet Basics and Applications) are common office automation tools and Internet knowledge and basic operations, which, together with the first part, form the teaching content of computer culture foundation and include the requirements of the first level of the National Non-Computer Major Computer Proficiency Examination. It is recommended to arrange 48 teaching hours.
- Chapters 7 to 10 are the teaching content of databases, VB programming, and hospital information systems. Among them, Chapter 7 (Access 2000 Database) and Chapters 8 and 9 (VB Programming) both include the requirements of the second level of the National Non-Computer Major Computer Proficiency Examination for "Database or Programming"). It is recommended to arrange 36 teaching hours for each. If used as part of a computer series elective course, these chapters can all be independent and offered as 20 teaching hours of theoretical courses.
To improve the overall level of computer teaching in medical colleges, the editorial committee accepted many suggestions from teachers and also compiled the book "Experimental Guidance for Fundamentals of Medical Computer Applications." In addition to teaching support experiments, exercises for each chapter and particularly useful and exciting content are also included.
