Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-07-01
Features: Since its publication in 1988, this Textbook has been widely welcomed by teachers and students, earning extensive praise and making significant contributions to the field of linguistics in China. However, over the past decade, linguistics has made substantial progress, and new achievements urgently need to be incorporated. In light of this, the chief editor, Professor Hu Zhuanglin, along with a group of young and middle-aged linguists, has revised the textbook. The revised edition incorporates feedback from teachers using the book online, removing or condensing content deemed less important and fully reflecting the new developments in linguistics over the past decade. While maintaining depth in theory, it has also enhanced the accessibility and engagement of the language. The revised edition has been adjusted and supplemented in terms of questions and exercises, and answers have been included. Additionally, to cater to readers with varying levels of expertise, the authors of this Textbook will publish an advanced linguistics textbook, which will focus on more challenging and theoretical content in linguistics specifically for graduate teaching. The advanced textbook is scheduled for release in the near future and is eagerly anticipated by readers. The guiding principles for writing this book are: ① Primarily aimed at senior undergraduate English majors, but also suitable for postgraduate students in English. ② Written in English, with English examples used as much as possible. ③ In terms of content, it should convey fundamental knowledge while reflecting the new developments in linguistics. ④ In terms of perspective, it should not be confined to a single theoretical school. ⑤ The content of the book can be taught in detail or concisely, and instructors can adjust it according to their school's teaching plans and students' proficiency levels.
