Features: As a literary genre concept, the novella is a very young art. In 1835, Russian critic V. G. Belinsky published "On the Russian Novella and Gogol's Novellas" in the journal Teleskop, from which the concept of the novella as a literary genre was independently proposed. Although the novella at that time was defined in contrast to the novel, some discussions of the novella often included short stories as well. It was not until the publication of Belinsky's "A Glance at Russian Literature in 1847" that the novella established its independent status alongside the novel and short story, securing its place as a distinct literary genre. However, the novella truly became a global literary phenomenon and trend only in the "post-war era" after World War II.
