Features: In September 1999, Higher Education Press and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press published the "College English Teaching Syllabus [Revised Jiang Version] (Undergraduate College Use)," which listed approximately 4,200 vocabulary words for the College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) without phonetic transcriptions or Chinese definitions. In July 2000, Higher Education Press and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press published the "College English Teaching Syllabus Vocabulary List" compiled by the Vocabulary Revision Working Group of the "College English Teaching Syllabus." This list added phonetic transcriptions and Chinese definitions, becoming an important basis for 21st-century college English teaching, textbook compilation, and CET-4 test question setting. It is one of the reference books for foreign language teachers. The learning and application of vocabulary cannot be separated from context. This dictionary is based on the "College English Teaching Syllabus Vocabulary List," approximately 4,200 CET-4 vocabulary words. Each entry's definition aligns with the "College English Teaching Syllabus Vocabulary List," and each definition is followed by example sentences and phrases to illustrate its usage, avoiding the monotony of rote memorization. The second feature of this dictionary is that the 4,200 CET-4 vocabulary words are arranged separately: approximately 1,800 basic words and 2,400 key words, allowing students to memorize words more targetedly. The third feature is its strong practicality. Most entries include [Phrases and Collocations], [Confusable Words], and [Notes], addressing the problems students encounter during their studies. This vocabulary book is a practical book we dedicated to readers over two years. Its main target audience is college students, but it can also serve as a reference book for middle school students, self-learners, and teachers.
