Features: This book is a national "Five-Year Plan" teaching material. The entire book takes information as the main thread, introducing detection technology, detection instruments, and detection systems from perspectives such as the acquisition of information, the transformation of information, the processing of information, the transmission of information, and the display of information. The content of the book includes: general concepts of detection technology and measurement errors and accuracy of detection instruments; detection principles and application characteristics of various detection components; detection methods and instruments for common parameters; as well as information processing, information transmission technologies, and the latest advancements in detection technology (including soft measurement technology and image detection technology, etc.). This book can serve as a textbook for related majors such as automation, measurement and control technology and instruments, instrumentation, electronics, and mechanical engineering. It can also be used as a reference for graduate students, researchers, and engineers engaged in detection technology and instruments. This book is a national "Five-Year Plan" teaching material compiled for universities, specifically for automation majors. It can also be used as a textbook for professional courses such as "Sensing Technology" and "Detection Technology" in related fields like measurement and control technology and instruments. With the rapid development of information technology, the acquisition, processing, transmission, and display of information have become key technologies in the field of information. Based on this idea, the book takes generalized information theory as the main thread to introduce and discuss information technology in automatic detection technology and automated instruments. The main features of this book are: (1) Strives to reflect the latest sensing technology, instrument technology, and information transmission and processing technology in the textbook, while also adding modern detection technologies such as soft measurement, image detection, and virtual detection; (2) Takes information as the main thread, discussing detection technology and detection systems around the acquisition, transformation, processing, transmission, and display of information; (3) Combines sensing technology, detection technology, and automated instruments, allowing readers not only to understand the principles of individual sensors but also to master complete detection systems composed of sensors and other components (instruments). Based on the author's many years of teaching experience, the self-study and discussion method is more suitable when using this book for teaching. In class, the teacher should focus on common issues related to detection technology and instruments, then assign thought questions and exercises, encouraging students to study from the textbook and other materials while discussing among themselves. The teacher can select some representative thought questions for students to answer, discuss, or even debate in class, and then summarize and conclude. If possible, the teacher can guide students to write short papers or reports based on their interests and strengths. Through such teaching activities, students' learning motivation and interest can be enhanced, ensuring teaching quality and effectiveness. In terms of content arrangement, teachers can choose chapters from this textbook based on their professional characteristics. For automation majors, it is recommended to focus on Chapters 1, 2, and 3, while Chapters 4 and 5 can be optional learning content. The authors who contributed to this book are: Chapter 1: Zhang Hongjian, Dai Kezhong, Yang Xianlin; Chapter 2: Zhang Zhijun, Zhang Hongjian; Chapter 3: Zhang Hongjian, Dai Kezhong, Ji Haifeng, Han Xuefei; Chapter 4: Meng Jianbo; Chapter 5: Ji Haifeng, Zhang Zhijun. The entire book was compiled and edited by Zhang Hongjian, with Han Xuefei and Cheng Lu also participating in the editing of some chapters. The entire book was reviewed and approved by Professor Li Haiqing. Although the authors have carefully proofread the manuscript multiple times, due to their limited expertise, there may still be errors and issues in the book. We sincerely welcome readers to point out any mistakes or suggestions. By the authors, April 2004, in Zhejiang University Qiyu Garden, Hangzhou.
