Features: Historically, Chinese landscape painters, through long-term practice, have created a series of relatively complete expressive methods based on their observations and understanding of various mountain shapes and rock textures. These methods are known as "cunfa," which are also the fundamental painting techniques for rendering mountains and rocks. During the Sui and Tang dynasties, the techniques for painting mountains and rocks often involved first outlining the lines, then layering strokes and washes to create the texture and layers of the rocks, followed by the rational combination of colors such as azurite and malachite. Over time, cunfa became increasingly refined through the continuous exploration of painters from the Five Dynasties, Song, and Yuan periods. Learning tradition is to inherit and carry forward it, while also developing and innovating upon it. This book introduces the basic painting technique "shanshi fa" in landscape painting, hoping to inspire beginners.
