Features: In recent years, with the development of economy, trade, diplomacy, culture, and personnel exchanges between China and the Czech Republic, the interest and demand for learning the Czech language have been continuously growing. Over the past decade or so, the Czech Republic has undergone significant changes, with the former Czechoslovakia splitting into two separate countries. To meet the teaching needs of non Czech language, we have currently compiled this textbook, "Basic Czech," in two volumes, targeting first- and second-year undergraduate students majoring in Czech language, literature, and national conditions, as well as those who are self-studying the language. This textbook references the grammatical system of Czech original textbooks published in the Czech Republic in recent years, designed for teaching foreign students. The content mainly includes: an introduction to the Czech language, sentence patterns from simple to more complex written and spoken texts. The text covers practical topics such as personal resumes, school life, daily necessities, social interactions, travel and transportation, sports and health, medical care, service and shopping, as well as a brief introduction to the national conditions, geography, history, and culture of both China and the Czech Republic. The grammar content includes: Czech orthography, the morphology and declension of the ten parts of speech; gender, number, case, and the singular and plural forms and usage of cases up to the seventh case. Verb tenses (present, past, future), perfective and imperfective aspects, infinitives, and auxiliary verbs. Sentence structures such as indicative, imperative, subjunctive, active and passive voice, and passive voice of self-reflexive verbs, as well as other grammatical and word-formation content. Additionally, some vocabulary related to the Czech national conditions and practical for Czech beginners learning Chinese is included, aiming to help students master the basic grammar and vocabulary of the Czech language in a relatively short period, laying a foundation for their advanced studies or further language pursuits. The textbook is designed to be concise and clear in grammar, accompanied by exercises for students and self-learners to practice.
