Features: The New Practical Chinese Course is a new series of textbooks developed at the beginning of the 21st century for learners of Chinese who use English as their native or medium of instruction. The purpose of this textbook series is to gradually cultivate learners' ability to use Chinese for communication through the study of language structures, language functions, related cultural knowledge, and the training of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The series consists of six volumes and 70 lessons, with the first four volumes covering the beginner and pre-intermediate levels (50 lessons in total), and the last two volumes covering the intermediate level (20 lessons in total). It can be used as a comprehensive teaching material for Chinese for overseas students taking Chinese as a major or elective, typically studied one lesson per week per semester, with one volume per semester. It can also serve as a self-study textbook for learners. Each volume is accompanied by a Comprehensive Workbook, a Teacher's Manual, audio cassettes or CDs. The Teacher's Manual provides suggestions on teaching objectives, teaching steps, and methods for each lesson, as well as explanations of the textbook content. It offers detailed introductions to phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary for teacher reference. Each volume includes two sets of unit tests for teachers to choose from, along with answers to the tests and exercises.
