Features: The 2004 National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao) in China had 11 provinces and cities independently setting the exams. The national papers were divided into two versions: Eastern and Western regions. Additionally, the mathematics papers were categorized into arts and science streams. As a result, there were a total of 25 distinct mathematics exam papers for the 2004 Gaokao (this book selects 23, excluding 2 old-curriculum papers). This is an immense treasure trove of information. It is a long-sought-after teaching reference resource for mathematics teachers and an invaluable study guide for candidates and high school students. Through preliminary review and analysis of these papers, we found they share the following common characteristics:
1. Emphasis on fundamental mathematical knowledge, basic abilities, core ideas, typical methods, and assessment.
2. Respect for candidates' individual development, reflecting the humanistic philosophy of exam setting.
3. Connection to real-world applications, using mathematical knowledge to solve practical problems.
4. Moving into the substantive stage of assessing new curriculum content.
5. Diverse solution methods that encourage creativity among candidates. This book provides additional solutions beyond the basic ones for reference, though space limitations prevent offering more. Students can choose the methods that suit their abilities during revision. With effort, they are sure to improve their comprehensive skills.
Overall, the 2004 Gaokao mathematics papers reflect a shared focus on fundamentals, abilities, real-world application, and innovative thinking in their design. Differences in difficulty, knowledge coverage, and emphasis on certain topics across regions are normal phenomena. Given the vastness of China, teaching conditions vary across provinces, cities, and regions, and teachers have different requirements for mastering curriculum content. These differences inevitably lead to variations in Gaokao exam questions, but they will not affect the true level of candidates' comprehensive abilities.
