Features: Emergency medicine is a young, interdisciplinary field in the realm of medical science, officially recognized as the 23rd discipline in the field of medical science by the international medical community in 1979. Initially, some American medical professionals argued that many clinical procedures in emergency medicine were merely copied or borrowed from other clinical departments. When it comes to theory, does it have its own "special" foundational theory? What about research work? In reality, there was a sense of unnecessary effort. These arguments are somewhat misleading. First, clinical procedures do not belong to any single discipline. In terms of foundational theory, both clinical and basic disciplines share the same foundation within the field of medical science, though they have different focuses. The last point is certain: currently, research in emergency medicine is still in its infancy, but it should be viewed from a perspective of development—research in emergency medicine is actively underway. What are the main distinguishing features of emergency medicine compared to other medical specialties? In short, the primary characteristic is that physicians specializing in emergency medicine are tasked with rescuing critically ill or injured patients from clinical death, making preliminary diagnoses, and maintaining their life support, before handing them over to other clinical specialists for further treatment. Emergency physicians do not replace specialists in providing follow-up care for patients. For an acute or critically ill patient, it is clear that they can be saved from death and reduce the likelihood of disability. Second, we do not rely on age, gender, or gross anatomical location to determine diagnostic and treatment procedures, but instead use special emergency medicine protocols to address patients who require immediate attention within a limited time, especially those with life-threatening conditions or acute decompensation at any severity level.
