Night Visitor to the Vampire

Author: Anne Rice
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-09-01
Features: This is a richly symbolic fantasy novel that delves into profound insights into the human mind and thoughts. The author uses the description of a non-realistic world to reveal the truth of the real world, exploring the mysteries of human nature from the perspective of a vampire's inner world. Through the vampire life of the protagonist Louis, the novel reveals the loneliness and contradictions of human existence in the real world. Louis was turned into a vampire when he could no longer bear the pain of life and sought death, but the vampire's tendency to kill and drink blood did not completely replace his humanity. He did not become a bloodthirsty killer like other vampires. Louis was a young Franco-American man who, consumed by guilt and despair after losing his beloved brother, was turned into a vampire by Lestat. Louis could never come to terms with the reality of the vampire's bloody murders, so Lestat turned the five-year-old girl Claudia into a vampire as well, forcing Louis to kill in order to care for her. Claudia eventually killed Lestat because she could no longer endure his tyranny and control, and then she and Louis went in search of other vampire companions. But in the end, Louis lost Claudia and lived alone in eternal life. Interview with the Vampire is a modern classic and a gem in Anne Rice's vampire series novels, described by Patrick O'Kellie as "a rare work that combines a childlike obsession with the supernatural world with profound insight into the human condition."
