Features: This book is the lower volume of "Educational Master's English Course." It consists of ten units, suitable for one semester of study. Each unit includes three texts. The first text is intensive reading material, while the second and third texts are extensive reading materials. The three articles revolve around the same theme, totaling approximately 4,400 words. The intensive reading texts are accompanied by a glossary providing English and Chinese definitions. The glossaries for the ten intensive reading texts contain 290 words of level 4-6, 287 words above level 6, 129 phrases, and 150 proper nouns, totaling 735 words/phrases. Each intensive reading text is followed by a substantial number of exercises.
- Reading Comprehension allows students to practice after browsing the text or after the teacher's explanation, improving reading comprehension skills.
- Vocabulary Exercises aim to help students master the usage of key vocabulary and phrases in the intensive reading texts.
- Translation is divided into two forms: Chinese-to-English and English-to-Chinese. The Chinese-to-English translation is in the form of single sentences, designed to review and reinforce important sentence patterns and collocations from the text. The English-to-Chinese translation is in paragraph form, aimed at practicing translation techniques and improving reading skills.
- Writing Skills introduces basic writing techniques and the requirements for different writing styles to enhance writing proficiency.
The two extensive reading texts in each unit are extensions and expansions of the intensive reading theme. The vocabulary in these texts includes Chinese definitions. Reading comprehension questions are provided after each text. According to statistics, the total reading volume of the intensive reading texts is approximately 18,880 words, while the total reading volume of the extensive reading texts is 25,191 words, an increase of about 5,000 words compared to the upper volume.
The Workbook includes four short reading passages per unit, with a total reading volume of 26,658 words, an increase of about 10,000 words compared to the upper volume. The self-assessment tests include reading passages totaling approximately 6,176 words. Therefore, the total reading volume of the lower volume is 76,905 words, meeting the syllabus requirements and greatly benefiting the English proficiency of educational master's students. The two extensive reading texts per unit can be handled flexibly—either taught by the teacher in class or studied independently by students after class.
Two sets of self-assessment tests for the texts are appended at the end, for students to use as final review and exam preparation.
