The Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties were a significant historical stage in the development of ancient Chinese literature. To facilitate readers' reading and recitation, we selected this volume titled Essentials of Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Prose and Poetry. This book was compiled and annotated by the Editorial Department of People's Literature Publishing House, with contributions from some renowned classical literature scholars in China. The entire book is divided into three volumes: Poetry Selection, Ci Selection, and Prose Selection. Volume 1 and Volume 2 were annotated and commented upon by Comrade Zhu Hong; Volume 3's Prose Selection was annotated and commented upon by multiple contributors, with the following details: Mr. Zhou Qicheng annotated and commented on Preface to Record of the Southern Crown," Autobiography of the Iron Taoist," Epitaph for Pa Wei (written by Xu Wei), Self-Epitaph (written by Zhang Dai), Self-Description," and Self-Narrative. Mr. Xu Yimin annotated and commented on Preface to the Ode to a Journey to Luofu Mountain," Letter Requesting Zhou Cuiwei to Engrave Seals," Elegy on the Salt Ship," and Preface to Awakening in Autumn. Mr. He Jianhua annotated and commented on Ode on Expressing My Will," Ode on Resenting the Morning Moon," and Ode on the Water Lily. The remaining pieces were annotated and commented upon by Comrade Ma Yumei.
