Xu Huajun: Comrade Zha Jiawu has long been engaged in Chinese line drawing creation and is an outstanding middle-aged painter. We first met in 1992, when he said he wanted to create some works depicting folk customs. I was very happy because I have always enjoyed looking at pictures that reflect past social life, as they allow us to see the development and changes in social life. The famous masterpiece "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" by Zhang Zeduan from the Song Dynasty is beloved by people because we can see how our ancestors lived several hundred years ago from it. As social issues progress, life also changes accordingly. Now we can see colorful fireworks in the sky on festive nights. However, some customs from our childhood, even those with religious elements, such as releasing turtles, tortoises, fish, and shrimp during the Bathing Buddha Festival, lotus lanterns during the Qiqiao Festival, and placing incense sticks all over the ground on the birthday of King Dizang at night, are no longer visible to people today. Therefore, it is very meaningful for some painters to use painting to depict the social life and ethnic customs of a certain historical period. In this album, we can also see that Comrade Zha Jiawu's creative techniques and themes are very broad, which indicates that he has reached a relatively free realm in Chinese line drawing creation and possesses a strong personal style. Therefore, I am very happy to introduce this album to the readers.
