Features: "MAYAMODELING Model Volume" is a required course for animation majors. The author is a teacher at Shenzhen Global Digital Media Training Center (IDMT), one of Asia's largest CG production bases, with years of experience in frontline teaching and production, possessing rich teaching and animation production expertise. The book uses clear and concise language, combined with illustrations, to systematically explain the application principles, methods, and techniques of polygon modeling, NURBS modeling, and subdivision modeling in film production, based on the production process of IDMT's first large-scale fully CG film, "Thrust Through the Moebius Strip," using the characters, props, and scene models from the film as blueprints.
Book Content: The book consists of 8 chapters. Chapter 2 primarily introduces the entire production process of the production department of Global Digital Media Company and the principles of teamwork and management coordination. Chapters 3 and 4 detail the process of creating a complete character model according to the standards of film character production, including the principles of facial expression generation, the creation methods of expressions and mouth shape targets, and guide readers on how to apply knowledge of artistic human anatomy to character modeling. Chapter 5 teaches NURBS surface modeling methods by creating the Metalbee model. Chapters 6 and 7 reinforce the mastery of polygon modeling methods through the on-site production of the "spaceship" prop and the "palace" scene in the film. Chapter 8 introduces the basic concepts and operational methods of subdivision modeling and explains the operational techniques and application methods of subdivision modeling using the "monster" model from the film as an example.
Book Features:
1. For the first time, it reveals the technical core secrets of character, prop, and scene modeling in domestic CG production companies, with strong professionalism, inspiration, and guidance.
2. The book is systematically structured to meet the teaching requirements of 3D animation training courses, using production experiences and model source files from the film as live teaching cases to the greatest extent, stimulating readers' learning interest and making the learning process easier and more accessible.
3. The book is richly illustrated, with step-by-step explanations, clear focus, and a practical CD-ROM that greatly enhances learning efficiency, achieving twice the result with half the effort.
CD Content:
- Character, scene, and prop model files from the film
- Introduction to the IDMT Training Department
- IDMT Siggraph 2003 Exhibition
- 3D animation works (Ragged Ann)
- Works appreciation by IDMT Training Department students
