Features: This book focuses on applying UML for object-oriented analysis and design, helping software engineers master a practical and feasible methodology and process by working through examples and following step-by-step guidance. In the late 1990s, UML became an internationally recognized standard modeling language by the Object Management Group (OMG). The founders of UML are world-class masters of object-oriented methodology, and the core value and advantages of UML are deeply reflected in object-oriented methods and processes. Adhering to UML to standardize the object-oriented analysis and design process can significantly improve development efficiency and ensure sustainable development, which is recognized as a major trend. Mastering UML has become a highly valuable skill for software engineers. In China, teaching research and engineering practice related to UML and object-oriented methods are gaining increasing attention, and there is a growing demand for books on object-oriented analysis and design. Based on teaching and consulting experience, the author understands the main challenges and practical difficulties faced by Chinese software developers in adopting, mastering, and applying UML and object-oriented methods. This book is grounded in engineering practice, focusing on applying UML for object-oriented analysis and design, and helping software engineers master a practical methodology and process by working through examples and overcoming key obstacles. The book is divided into three parts.
Part 1: Basic Concepts and Prerequisites. This part serves as the foundation of the book, explaining the meaning and value of analysis and design models, outlining the essence, advantages, and principles of object-oriented technology, introducing the organization of model content, and covering relevant UML expressions.
Part 2: UML Application Modeling Practice Process. This is the core of the book, detailing the five tasks in the analysis and design process: global analysis, local analysis, global design, local design, and detailed design. It includes 14 fundamental activities, 39 core concepts, 30 key steps, 52 practical tips, and examples that run throughout the book. The practice process in this book follows the core ideas and principles of the Rational Unified Process (RUP), which is an iterative, use-case-driven, and architecture-centric object-oriented analysis and design process.
Part 3: Extending the Design Model. This part extends the content of the book, providing a concise introduction to activities and content directly related to the design model, including the transition from the design model to the implementation model, the relationship between the design model and the data model, and how to organize key design documents.
Grounded in the perspective of practitioners, this book is suitable for software engineers applying object-oriented technology, especially system architects and designers. It can also serve as a practical course textbook for applying UML for object-oriented analysis and design.
