Features: In 2001 and 2003, the Ministry of Education of China successively issued the Full-Time Compulsory Education Chinese Curriculum Standards and the General High School Chinese Curriculum Standards (hereinafter referred to as the New Curriculum Standards). These standards aim to enhance the modern awareness of the Chinese curriculum and comprehensively improve students' basic Chinese literacy. The New Curriculum Standards provide a fresh interpretation of the nature, fundamental concepts, and curriculum design of Chinese subjects in primary and secondary schools, while also making significant adjustments to the extracurricular reading volume and reading materials for primary and secondary schools. They specify the total extracurricular reading volume for students in compulsory education and high school stages and list reading materials for different grade levels, which offer guidance for students in selecting extracurricular reading content. This enhances the scientific nature of reading and reduces randomness.
In accordance with the requirements of the New Curriculum Standards, Jiangsu Literature Publishing House and Peking University Press jointly launched the "Chinese Curriculum Standards Extracurricular Reading Guidance Series," a collection of 49 titles, with renowned writer and professor of the Chinese Department at Peking University, Cao Wenxuan, serving as the chief editor. Each book is preceded by introductory texts that provide background knowledge, helping students grasp the content they are reading. Additionally, reading prompts or commentary sections are included to broaden students' reading perspectives and deepen their understanding. We hope this series can offer primary and secondary school students a brand-new reading experience.
This Elementary Science Knowledge Stories series is tailored to the age characteristics of primary school students, telling engaging and thought-provoking stories in a way they love. It not only provides them with many scientific facts that are hard to find in textbooks but also helps broaden their horizons, expand their knowledge, and understand the world. Furthermore, it plays a positive role in cultivating their curiosity, thirst for knowledge, and interest in learning, inspiring them to be self-directed and independent thinkers. It also helps protect and stimulate their spirit of exploration, innovative thinking, and the latent creative qualities hidden within them.
