Features: Classical Music 400 Years 2 (2 Volumes): "Classical Music" originally referred to music works passed down from ancient times that were considered classics. Later, its meaning was extended to encompass music works with profound ideological content and perfect artistic form, all of which were termed "classical music." In this sense, folk or professional music from different historical eras, countries, and ethnic groups with high artistic quality can all be called "classical music." In Western music, there are also multiple interpretations of classical music:
1. Specifically refers to music from the mid-18th century to the 1820s, represented by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, known as the "Vienna Classical Music."
2. Traces back to music from the pre-Vienna Classical period, led by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Bach, and Handel, or even further back to music from the European Renaissance.
3. Extends from the Vienna Classical period to the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Western professional music, including Romantic and national music styles. In this sense, classical music forms a corresponding concept with "modern music" developed in the early 20th century.
4. Includes non-pure modern music from the early 20th century within the scope of classical music. In this sense, classical music aligns with the concept of "serious music," contrasting with light music, pop music, and popular music.
Classical Music 400 Years covers a range of composers from Monteverdi (1567–1643) in the 16th century to Shostakovich (1906–1975) in the 20th century, totaling 36 master composers, spanning approximately 400 years. Classical Music 400 Years 2 (2 Volumes) is divided into eight parts, each centered around musical eras, with each part consisting of a main volume and a supplementary volume.
The main volumes introduce the lives and creative works of the composers, interspersed with anecdotes, making them engaging and readable. The books are accompanied by numerous high-quality illustrations, catering to the reading habits of a visual generation. The supplementary volumes focus on musical analysis, featuring carefully selected works that meet the professional needs of music lovers.
The publication of this series represents an unprecedented scale of music publishing in China. It serves as a spiritual feast for both general music enthusiasts and professional musicians in the country, providing practical help in popularizing and promoting classical music, as well as enhancing national musical literacy and cultural standards.
