Terrain: Shanghai is located at the end of the Yangtze River Delta Plain. The plain has a flat terrain with an average elevation of about 4 meters.
History: Ancient Shanghai was a fishing village. In 1292, Shanghai County was established, and by the 17th century, it had become a prosperous commercial port. In 1685, customs were established in Shanghai, and thereafter, it became known as the "confluence of the sea, the southeastern hub." After the Opium War in 1840, Shanghai fell into a semi-colonial and semi-feudal city status and remained so until its liberation on May 19, 1949. Since liberation, especially with the development of the Pudong New Area in recent years, Shanghai has undergone globally renowned transformations. Today, Shanghai is striving to become an international metropolis.
Climate: Subtropical monsoon climate, with distinct seasons, abundant sunshine, and ample rainfall. The average annual temperature is 16°C, with about 230 frost-free days per year. The average annual rainfall is approximately 1,200 millimeters, concentrated mainly during the rainy season from May to September.
Geographical Location: Located in the middle section of China's eastern coastline, at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Latitude: 31°14’ N; Longitude: 121°29’ E.
Administrative Divisions: The city is under 15 municipal districts and 5 suburban counties. It is a central-level municipality, China's largest commercial, financial, and industrial city, as well as the largest industrial and technological base in China.
