Power and Interdependence is a seminal work co-authored by the renowned American scholars Robert Keohane and Joseph Nye. The publication of the book in 1977 marked the beginning of the challenge to the dominance of (neo)realist theory by the liberal institutionalist school of international relations, forming the theoretical cornerstone of the rise of liberal institutionalism. In 1989, the book was revised and expanded to include responses to criticisms. By 2001, the third edition was published, where the two scholars integrated the concepts of globalization, international regimes, and interdependence, offering insightful analysis of the international situation and engaging in rigorous theoretical discourse, providing a serious theoretical examination of world politics in the early 21st century and becoming the pinnacle of the development of liberal institutionalism.
