Plant Genetic Engineering (Second Edition): Second Edition

Author: Wang Guanlin

Publish Date: 2004-01-01
Features: This book serves as a reference and tool for researchers, and can also be used as a teaching material for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students in biotechnology, as well as for teachers. Based on the previous edition of Principles and Techniques of Plant Gene Engineering, this edition incorporates new genes, theories, and techniques developed in recent years, expands its content significantly, and undergoes a thorough revision and rewriting. The chapters have increased from 20 in the previous edition to 39, divided into six parts.
Part I is the Target Gene section, consisting of 8 chapters that discuss the structure, function, and applications of target genes used in plant gene engineering in recent years. Part II is the Target Gene Isolation and Cloning section, comprising 10 chapters that introduce new techniques and principles for gene isolation and cloning used in laboratories both domestically and internationally, including the applications of gene chips and bioinformatics in gene isolation and gene expression analysis. Part III is the Target Gene Transformation section, which builds upon the five transformation systems introduced in the previous edition and adds new techniques developed in recent years, such as the PositechTM screening marker system, artificial chromosomes, polygenic transformation, and plastid gene transformation techniques. Part IV is the Detection and Identification of Transgenic Plants, divided into 7 chapters that primarily introduce the principles and techniques for integrated identification and expression analysis of reporter genes and target genes, including timed, quantitative, and localized detection. Part V consists of 6 chapters that systematically describe the genetic characteristics of transgenic plants, the regulatory mechanisms of foreign gene expression, and artificial regulatory systems. Part VI is the Experimental Techniques section, which compiles dozens of new experimental methods currently used both domestically and internationally. At the end of the book, there is an appendix with commonly used experimental data and information in plant gene engineering.
