Young female writer Xiao Shuo, beautiful and innocent, is in a car accident with her boyfriend Ajun while going to register for marriage. Waking up in the hospital, Xiao Shuo finds Ajun gone and herself left with physical and emotional scars, often waking up from terrifying nightmares. Thus, Xiao Shuo begins her long journey of treatment, searching for and recovering her lost memory and spiritual body.
She travels through the Daxing'anling Mountains, Hangzhou, Huangshan, Qingdao, Sichuan, and Sanya—places where she and Ajun once shared love and passion. Along the way, she encounters a group of men and women equally wounded by love, some innocent and romantic, others indulgent and reckless. Among them are a female boss, an editor, a doctor, a psychologist, an artist, and a prostitute, and they become entangled in love and hate, deepening her pain and despair.
Finally, in Sanya, with its coconut breeze, sea charm, and sunny skies, Xiao Shuo faces another test of love and hate, and a choice between life and death!
