Features: This textbook introduces all aspects of international trade while placing greater emphasis on contracts and letters of credit. It particularly includes basic skill training sections such as filling out contracts, reviewing letters of credit, and writing correspondence for modification. A new "SkillDrilling" module has been added, offering simulated "skill training" or "case discussions" to allow students to practice, making them feel as if they are interning in an import/export company to enhance their practical skills.
3. Moderation. Basic writing techniques, translation skills, grammar points, and prepositional phrases are integrated into the text, laying a foundation for further studies. This book pays special attention to prepositional usage. Based on decades of teaching experience and multiple participations in the national foreign trade salesperson qualification examination, the author has always believed that prepositional usage is the backbone of English correspondence teaching. With this framework in place, students with a certain English foundation and preliminary knowledge of import/export business will find that mastering prepositional usage equates to mastering English correspondence. Due to the compilers' limited business and English proficiency, errors are inevitable. We welcome feedback from readers and colleagues.
Foreign Trade English Correspondence is one of the core textbooks for finance and economics majors in higher vocational and technical colleges in the 21st century. The purpose of writing this textbook is to address the issue of "learning what is not used" and "using what is not learned" in traditional materials, as well as to explore ways to bridge the gap between higher vocational and technical education and business management practices. This textbook adheres to the principles of "facing modernization, the world, and the future," aiming to cultivate applied talents suited for development in competitive market conditions.
This book combines knowledge of international trade with English, aiming to help students understand all aspects of foreign trade while learning and mastering the application of English in each business stage. Traditional Foreign Trade English Correspondence included letters, telex, and fax. Students were required not only to learn the basic format of English letters and master writing techniques but also to study the special style of telex and numerous fax abbreviations. With the rapid development of global communication methods, telex and fax have almost been phased out, and letters have largely been replaced by faxes and emails. Especially with the use of Internet-EDI (the primary transmission method for international e-commerce), companies and businesses now have a 24/7 online global market.
Compared to traditional textbooks, this book has three key features:
1. Forward-looking. Although the traditional concept of "correspondence" has been replaced by faxes and emails, the basic format, expression, and content remain largely unchanged—they are simply letters sent through different means. Even in international trade, e-commerce requires standardized formats for information exchange, but the ordinary text files needed before translating into EDI standard formats are still in letter form. Therefore, mastering letter writing remains fundamental. We have removed telex and fax, which are rarely used, as they occupied a significant portion of traditional textbooks. The book now includes knowledge of international e-commerce, preparing students for the era of global e-commerce.
2. Practical.
