Author: Zhang Xiaoyun

Publishing Date: 2004-01-01
Features: The relationship between words and music is extremely close, as words originally developed to meet the needs of singing. The rapid development of this emerging poetic form in the Tang Dynasty was closely linked to the flourishing music and entertainment activities of the time. The Tang and Five Dynasties period was the time when the poetic form of ci flourished and matured. The ci of this period was healthy, vibrant, and thriving, just like the childhood and youth of a person, full of vitality. Wang Guowei called the ci of this period "fragrant and true color"—truly fragrant flowers. The ci poems selected in this book are from Zhang Zhang and Huang She's Complete Tang and Five Dynasties Ci. The arrangement is basically in accordance with Complete Tang and Five Dynasties Ci, except that the Dunhuang ci and anonymous ci are moved to the front for the convenience of readers to understand the development process of ci.
