Features: Oliver Twist is one of Dickens' early works. At first glance, it seems that the author does not deliberately explore the depths of human nature in this novel; on the contrary, we can see much cruelty and indifference. However, precisely in this atmosphere, a reflection on human nature, like splashing water, scatters and moistens people's eyes. A young pregnant woman of unknown origin collapses on the street and is taken to the poorhouse. The next day, she gives birth to a boy and dies. The orphan is named Oliver Twist. Ten years later, Oliver becomes an apprentice in a coffin shop. Unable to endure the abuse, he escapes to foggy London and unfortunately falls into the hands of thieves. The little orphan struggles in adversity, but fortunately, due to his kind nature, he receives help from good people, who repeatedly turn danger into safety. Finally, he is reunited with his loving family, and the mystery of his birth is also revealed.
