Features: Idioms are a distinctive category of vocabulary in Chinese, characterized by their neat form, harmonious rhythm, rich connotations, comprehensive functions, and widespread popularity. It has become a consensus that learning idioms is essential for mastering the Chinese language. The extent to which one understands idioms can be considered an important indicator of their Chinese proficiency. We hope to compile an idioms dictionary that is both accessible and practical, helping readers to understand and use idioms correctly while enhancing their cultural literacy.
In addition to the standard phonetic annotations and definitions found in most idioms dictionaries, this one also includes example sentences, functions, and structures. Each idiom features two typical examples for readers to study and analyze. The "Function" and "Structure" sections help readers gain a deeper understanding of idioms. The "Correct Form" and "Correct Pronunciation" sections prevent misreading and misuse. The "Synonyms" and "Antonyms" sections assist readers in grasping the categorization of idiomatic meanings. The "Colloquial Tone" and "Usage" sections highlight potential issues in usage, while the "Analysis" helps readers distinguish between the meanings and usages of idioms. The "Etymology" section provides readers with insights into the origins and evolution of idioms. If our modest efforts can genuinely assist readers, we will be overjoyed.
