Features: One of the fundamental ideas that Cassirer attempts to argue in The Man and His Symbols is that humans only become truly human in the activity of creating culture; and only in cultural activities can humans attain true "freedom." Cassirer authored over 120 works in his lifetime, with his research encompassing nearly all fields of contemporary Western philosophy and exerting a broad influence. He received high acclaim and recognition in the fields of philosophy of science, philosophy of language, and aesthetics. Cassirer's major works include The Concept of Entity and the Concept of Function, Freedom and Form, Einstein's Theory of Relativity, and others. The Man and His Symbols naturally deals with the so-called "problem of man." The book consists of twelve chapters, divided into two parts. The first part addresses various philosophical theories that answer the overarching question, ultimately pointing out that despite the prosperity of science and the advancement of technology in the contemporary era, the problem of man has not been truly resolved but rather finds itself in a profound crisis. The second part shifts to a comprehensive examination of the human world itself, to be precise, it examines how humans utilize different symbols to create various cultures. Therefore, its general title is: Man and Culture. One of the fundamental ideas that Cassirer attempts to argue in The Man and His Symbols is that humans only become truly human in the activity of creating culture; and only in cultural activities can humans attain true "freedom."
