Features: This book adopts a research method that combines theoretical discussion with case analysis. It is divided into two parts, the Upper and Lower, in chronological and thematic order. Chapter elaborates on the theory and movement of African nationalism, analyzing four characteristics of African nationalist thought—its fundamental essence of opposing imperialism and colonialism, its adoption of the slogans of Western bourgeois freedom and equality and imbuing them with new connotations, its moderate humanitarianism, and its emphasis on the racial and continental nature of Pan-Africanism. It also provides an overview of the four stages of African nationalism's development (1800–1919, 1919–1935, 1935–1960, and after 1960). Chapter 2 explores the relationship between African nationalism and national intellectuals, using the case of the ideological evolution of Manthela's nationalism. Chapter 3 examines religious movements as an important component of African nationalism. Chapter 4 analyzes the role of peasants' social resistance in nationalist movements. Chapter 5 analyzes the various difficulties faced by African nationalism after the independence of African countries, focusing on its duality and three practical issues that emerged after independence: military coups, cross-border ethnic groups, and local ethnic nationalism. Chapter 6 analyzes concepts such as "tribe," "tribalism," and the term "ethnicism" commonly used by some domestic scholars, advocating that academic circles in China should abandon the term "tribe" and instead use "people of ××" or "ethnic group ××," and abandon the term "tribalism" and use "local ethnic nationalism" instead. Chapter 7 studies the origins of local ethnic nationalism. Chapter 8 explores the evolution of African local ethnic nationalism. Chapter 9 examines the theory and practice of national identity construction. Chapter 10 further explores the relationship between African democratization and national identity construction, as well as feasible policies for national identity construction.
