To this end, we have specially compiled the book "Fast Breakthrough of English Phrases." The book includes two parts: verb phrases (Units 1-8) and non-verb phrases (Units 9-20), with a focus on verb phrases and prepositional phrases, while appropriately including noun phrases, adjective phrases, and adverbial phrases. The entire book emphasizes in-depth understanding, genuine comprehension, and flexible application, aiming to help learners quickly overcome obstacles and thus rapidly improve their English proficiency. This book has the following outstanding features:
1. Based on the requirements of the New College English Teaching Syllabus for the CET-4 and CET-6 issued by the Ministry of Education, over 3,000 common English phrases have been selected and collected. During the compilation, we primarily referred to English and American dictionaries as well as the newly published "English-Chinese Dictionary" in China, striving to ensure that the selected phrases are the most frequently used and practical ones currently. For some difficult-to-understand or hard-to-master usages and collocations, hints and annotations have been provided. Phrases with similar or identical meanings are marked with an asterisk and listed separately for distinction.
2. The definitions of the phrases are accurate and commonly used. Each definition is accompanied by multiple example sentences. The sentences are standardized, natural, and practical; the translations are precise and concise. All example sentences help readers deepen their understanding of the phrases and apply them based on their judgment. Many sentences are often used in spoken language, making them suitable for practice at any time. Some sentences are rich in wisdom and are worth memorizing and applying in key situations.
3. Verb phrases and prepositional phrases are important components of English phrases and must be well mastered in English learning. This book has made significant breakthroughs in the compilation of these two parts. For some common yet difficult-to-master verb phrases and prepositional phrases, extensive examples are provided. Through these examples, readers can deepen their impression and understanding, enabling them to use the phrases accurately and flexibly in specific contexts.
4. Following the basic principles of language learning, each unit in the book is accompanied by 50 practice questions, allowing readers to learn and practice simultaneously, integrating understanding and application. The answers to the exercises are provided at the end of the book for reference. By combining learning and practice in this way, the goal of achieving twice the result with half the effort can be achieved.
