Features: Chirality is one of the essential properties of nature. Chiral drugs achieve the purpose of treating diseases by inducing complementarity with inherent binding sites in certain macromolecules in the body, thereby inhibiting (or activating) the physiological activity of these macromolecules. Due to their high efficacy, chiral drugs have developed rapidly, with intense competition. After joining the WTO, the research and development of chiral drugs with independent intellectual property rights in China have become even more urgent. This book summarizes the achievements of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Major Project "Chemistry and Biology of Chiral Drugs," introducing China's innovative research on chiral drugs and intermediates, including resolution and combination resolution, asymmetric catalysis, chiral pool methods, and enzymatic biotransformation methods for asymmetric synthesis. It also presents several independently developed chiral ligands and chiral drugs with excellent asymmetric induction effects. Additionally, it covers the optical isomers of compounds such as xanthotoxin, butylphthalide, hydroxymethadone, and isothiocyanato-hydroxymethadone developed, which exhibit cognitive-enhancing and anti-apoptotic effects.
