Except for the preface and conclusion, the book is divided into seven chapters: The preface primarily elaborates on the significance and purpose of the topic, the theoretical and practical value of the research, and the research methods. Chapter 1 is the theoretical foundation part, which first explores theories related to trade structure, then analyzes and defines the concept of foreign trade structure, discusses the characteristics of foreign trade structure and the relationships among various structures, examines the conditions and factors influencing the evolution of foreign trade structure, and explores the objectives of optimizing foreign trade structure.
Chapter 2 focuses on the study of China's foreign trade commodity structure, mainly analyzing and researching the development and current status of China's foreign trade after the reform and opening-up, the changes and characteristics of the structure of import and export commodities, the factors contributing to the rapid improvement of the export commodity structure, the contradictions and issues in the transformation of the export commodity structure, and rational reflections on several relationships within the export commodity structure.
Chapter 3 examines China's foreign trade mode structure, mainly analyzing and researching the main composition and changes of China's foreign trade modes since the reform and opening-up, the development and current status of processing trade, its characteristics, the role of processing trade in China's economic development, the main problems in processing trade, the international background of China's development of processing trade, and the internal advantages of China in developing processing trade.
Chapter 4 investigates China's foreign trade model structure, mainly examining and researching the classification and evolution of trade models, the evolution of theories guiding trade models, the evolution of China's foreign trade model structure, and the orientation of intra-industry trade in China's foreign trade.
Chapter 5 studies China's external regional structure of foreign trade, primarily analyzing and researching the evolution, current status, and characteristics of China's external regional structure of foreign trade (i.e., country structure), as well as trends. It explores the development status and characteristics of China's trade relations with major developed countries, with developing countries and regions, with the mainland and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions, with the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Baltic States, and Eastern European countries, as well as the causes and effects of imbalances in China's foreign trade external regional structure.
Chapter 7 examines China's internal regional structure of foreign trade. Based on an analysis of the international trade competition China faces, it explores strategic choices for the development of China's foreign trade and proposes adjustment strategies and countermeasures for the structure of China's foreign trade.
The basic conclusions section briefly summarizes or further explains the main arguments of the book.
